We are aware there are instances where a candidate submits an application which appears to be within the word count however upon receiving the confirmation email, parts of the end of the text has been cut off.
The inconsistency stems from the difference that Windows and Unix based systems count characters.
The website counts irregular characters like ampersands, line spacing, colons etc as multiple characters (or example the "&" sign is read as "&" and takes up five characters therefore pushing you over the limit). This means that you will end up with slightly fewer characters that you expect.
Prior to the application from update in December 2019 we were able to display the limits at 5% less than the actual amount (3800 would display in a 4000 field). We have raised this with our software providers who are working towards a resolution.
For the time being, you will need to review your answers carefully and make sure you have left some space at the end if you are using plenty of punctuation.
